Privacy Policy — Imitation Screen
Last updated: 2026-05-28
This Privacy Policy describes how the Imitation Screen mobile application (“the App”), provided by Artem Kasparian (“we”, “us”, or “our”), handles your information. The App is designed to be privacy-first: it has no user accounts, no server backend of our own, and no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. The only data sent off your device is what is required to display ads to free users and to process subscription purchases through Apple.
1. Information We Collect
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect personally identifying information directly. The following data may be processed locally on your device:
- Locally stored preferences. All user settings are persisted in Apple’s
UserDefaultsand never leave your device. This includes your selected language, button style, controls position and visibility, color palette and RGB encoding, Kelvin temperature for the color slider, the chroma green/blue selection for the green-screen mode, slideshow transition style and fill mode, photo-delay value, premium subscription status flag, and onboarding completion flags for each screen. - Photos and videos you select. When you pick media from your photo library, the App uses Apple’s
PHPickerViewControllerand reads only the items you explicitly select. The media is used locally for display in the slideshow. We do not upload, copy to a server, or otherwise transmit your media anywhere. - Subscription purchase information. When you subscribe, Apple’s StoreKit processes the transaction. The App receives a verified confirmation that an active subscription exists (the product identifier and expiration date); we do not receive your payment details, your Apple ID, or any personal account information from Apple.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
The App does not collect, process, or transmit any of the following:
- Personal identifiers (name, email address, phone number, postal address).
- Location data (GPS, Wi-Fi, IP-based geolocation, or otherwise).
- Camera or microphone input.
- Contacts, calendar, reminders, health data, or motion data.
- Crash reports, analytics events, or any custom telemetry (no Firebase, no Crashlytics, no usage tracking of any kind).
- Device identifiers other than the optional advertising identifier described in Section 5.
- Any data about other apps you use on your device.
3. Permissions Requested
The App may request the following iOS permissions. You can revoke any of them at any time in iOS Settings:
- Photo Library (read-only). Requested only when you choose to import photos or videos into a slideshow. The App uses the modern
PHPickerViewControllerAPI, which lets you select individual items without granting full library access. - App Tracking Transparency (ATT). Requested only on devices where Apple’s tracking framework applies (see Section 5). Denying or revoking this permission does not disable any feature of the App.
The App does not request access to the camera, microphone, contacts, location, motion, health data, Bluetooth, or local network.
4. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each with its own privacy practices:
- Apple StoreKit — processes in-app subscription purchases and renewals. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) — displays interstitial advertisements to non-subscribed users. AdMob may collect technical data such as the device’s advertising identifier (IDFA, only if you grant the ATT permission), IP address, device model, operating system version, screen size, and similar diagnostic information needed to serve and measure ads. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) — handles the GDPR / ePrivacy consent dialog shown to users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland before any personalized advertising is requested. UMP stores your consent choices on your device so they persist across sessions.
If you are in a region where UMP applies, the App will not initialize the AdMob SDK or request any ads until UMP confirms that requesting ads is allowed by your consent. If you initially decline consent and later want to opt in (or vice versa), you can reopen the consent dialog at any time from inside the App: open Settings → Privacy options. This option is shown only in regions where UMP requires it.
Premium subscribers do not see ads, and for them the AdMob SDK is not initialized.
5. App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
In accordance with Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework, the App requests your permission before allowing advertising partners to use your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) for cross-app tracking. You can change this permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
If you deny tracking:
- You will still see ads in the free version.
- Ads will be non-personalized (contextual rather than behavioral).
- No feature of the App is gated behind the ATT permission.
The ATT prompt is shown only after the GDPR consent flow described in Section 4 has completed, where applicable.
6. Network Connectivity
The App requires an internet connection only for the following:
- Validating subscription state and processing purchases through Apple’s servers.
- Fetching the GDPR consent dialog through Google UMP (in applicable regions).
- Loading and displaying ads through AdMob (for free users only).
Beyond those three flows, the App itself does not send or receive any data over the network. All other features — slideshow playback, color editing, flicker / move / text engines, Kelvin and green-screen modes, transitions — operate entirely offline.
7. Data Retention
- Preferences and onboarding flags stored locally on your device remain there until you delete the App or clear its data through iOS.
- Subscription records are kept by Apple per Apple’s policies and are accessible from your Apple ID account settings.
- Advertising data handled by third-party SDKs is subject to those providers’ own retention policies (see Section 4).
To manage your consent for personalized ads at any time, open the App and go to Settings → Privacy options. To withdraw the ATT permission, use iOS Settings as described in Section 5.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, including under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal data held about you.
- Withdraw consent to personalized advertising at any time (via the App’s Privacy options or by revoking the ATT permission in iOS Settings).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Since we do not store personally identifying information on our own servers, most rights are exercised either directly on your device (by deleting the App or changing iOS Settings) or through the third parties listed in Section 4. If you are located in the European Economic Area, you may contact us regarding privacy-related requests using the contact email in Section 13.
9. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 and is not submitted to Apple’s Kids Category. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us at the address in Section 13 so we can take appropriate action.
Parents and guardians should also be aware of the health and safety warnings described in the App’s Terms of Use, specifically regarding photosensitive reactions to flicker and rapidly changing visual effects.
10. Security
We use standard mobile platform security practices, including iOS sandboxing, encrypted in-transit communication with third-party services, and Apple’s StoreKit verification of purchase signatures (JWS). However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the current version. Material changes will be highlighted in the App or on the policy page.
12. Jurisdiction
This Privacy Policy shall be governed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands.
13. Contact
